Most of my To Do list is finished. We’re all getting together on Saturday to divvy up the stuff that we only need to bring one of (aspirin, moleskin, sunscreen etc). We’re also going to test-drive the back packs with a little stroll that will probably convince us that we don’t need so much stuff!

It’s a little soon to be doing all that, but there’s a family reunion next weekend, so I thought we should just get it out of the way.

The volcano seems to have stopped for now. I’ve figured out how to fix the day on the itinerary that had too much going on. My book orders for school are in.  I need to wash my new pair of socks and print out my day by day itinerary and the custom guidebook I’ve compiled for each of our stops, but that’s basically it except for some odds and ends.

I’m excited but I’ve got that feeling like I’m holding my breath….

One Month to Go!

We have a place to sleep every night. (Frysava eventually emailed me back. They are very nice… and very, very laid back.) We have all of our plane tickets. (We found it was cheaper as well as, of course, quicker, to fly between Paris and Rome, and Prague and Paris.) So other than reserving a time to tour the Vatican museums, all the time-sensitive, they-might-run-out-of-room stuff is taken care of.

The genealogy has been fun. Through an on-line cousin contact from Kansas we “met” a very distant cousin in Frysava. I don’t know if we will meet over there or not. Frysava has a big genealogical festival every five years or so, so long-lost relations from the States aren’t that big of a deal. But it is nice to have a connection over there. I emailed him to ask how far it was from the bus stop to our pension, and he replied that the bus stop was the pension! I guess we won’t get lost then…

I made my trip To Do list and it isn’t too bad. (Of course, I’ve got to get book orders in before we leave, meaning that my fall classes needed to be sketched out, so it’s not like the trip is all I have going on.)

My biggest concern is the volcano. We’ve spent so much time and money already, that I would be just sickened if we didn’t get to go.

Mom bought a backpack and new shoes. She still doesn’t seem to think this is really going to happen! We are trying to walk more to get into shape.
